We want to clarify the rules around weddings and funerals, during Christmas, in the borough of Bolton, which is under Tier 3 measures.

Being able to commemorate the life of a loved one, to celebrate the union of two people, and to take part in religious worship is important to you.

But families should follow the government guidance to keep themselves safe.

Regardless of the Christmas bubble measures, only 15 people are allowed to attend a marriage ceremony in areas under Tier 3 restrictions such as the borough of Bolton.

For funerals up to 30 people can attend ceremonies depending on the size of the venue.

The same restrictions state that marriages cannot take place in private homes. The only exemption that allows for a marriage ceremony to take place in a private home is when one of the couple is in an end of life situation.

Weddings should only take place in coronavirus (COVID-19) secure environments with adequate risk assessments.

Wedding receptions are not allowed. Wakes are limited to 15 people and can’t take place in a hospitality venue.

If you are holding a wake or a vigil for the death of a person in a private home you can only do so with people you live with or are in a social bubble with.

Please follow the advice and the safe practices developed by your wedding venue or place of worship to allow for COVID safe weddings and Nikah to take place.
