You’re promised an ‘elftastic’ time at Bolton’s libraries and museums this Christmas.

Bolton libraries will extend their offer from Wednesday 2 December when National Lockdown lifts and Greater Manchester enters Tier 3 Covid restrictions.

PC access, reserve and collect, study spaces and book browsing will all be available.

They’ll also be some festive fun on the libraries’ social media. Throughout December, elves will be sharing their favourite festive books, recipes and crafts. Plus children can write a letter to Father Christmas and drop it off at their local library. The helpful elves will make sure that each child gets a letter back.

Follow what they’re getting up to on Facebook and Twitter.

Under tier three restrictions the museum will remain closed, however the museum shop will be allowed to reopen and is offering 10% discount on all items.  A free gift-wrapping service is available and staff will be on hand to assist you with your Christmas shopping.  The shop is open Monday to – Saturday 9am – 5pm.

Historic halls will also remain closed but the grounds of Smithills Halls will remain open. Visitors can explore the grounds of Smithills Hall as they follow the 'Elftastic' trail to find all the elves and answer festive questions along the way. Visitors can take part in the trail until Sunday 3 January 2021. No need to book just turn up and have some outdoor seasonal fun!

Cllr Martyn Cox, Executive Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration said: “We’re pleased to be able to reopen the libraries and the staff look forward to welcoming visitors back. Our priority remains keeping customers and staff safe and Covid measures are in place, but I’d like to remind visitors to observe social distancing and wear a face covering. “
