Dual Licence for Hackney Carriage Drivers - Taxi trade updates

The licensing team has listened to feedback from trade representatives, and from the two recent working groups, on the implementation of a dual licence to drive a hackney carriage and private hire vehicle.

The team is currently working on implementing the new dual licence arrangements. At the end of January, once everything is in place, a follow up email will be sent to you confirming when the new dual licences will start to be issued.

You are reminded that you are not permitted to drive a private hire vehicle (unless you currently hold a licence to drive a private hire vehicle) until your new dual licence has been issued.

Upon each renewal of your licence to drive a hackney carriage vehicle, your eligibility to hold a dual licence will be verified by the licensing team. The application process and current fee remain the same.
