Have your say on Bolton’s draft Care Home Top-Up Fee Policy
Bolton Council want your views on our Care Home Top-Up Fee Policy, which makes it easier for people to understand and choose the funding arrangements they want for their care.
What is a Care Home Top-Up Fee?
If the council is funding a care home placement, they will allocate an amount of money, known as a personal budget, to meet assessed needs. However, when an individual chooses a care home which is more expensive than their personal budget allowance, this is known as a top-up fee.
Bolton Council have now written a policy around top-up fees. This is in addition to the policy “Paying for Residential and Nursing Care”
Bolton Council must show there is at least one place available at a care home in your area that meets your care needs and is within your personal budget. If you choose to live in a home that has more expensive fees you may still be able to live there if someone pays the difference between the fees and your personal budget. This is known as a top-up fee.
Our aims for the Care Home Top-Up Fee Policy
The top up policy intends to provide a clear set of information for all parties involved, to facilitate good working arrangements, and ensure everyone has a clear understanding of Bolton Council’s approach. We’re now keen to hear from residents, customers and carers about whether the Care Home Top-Up Fee Policy is accessible and meets the needs of our residents.
