At his installation he looked forward to the completion or advancement of a number of improvement schemes during his year of Office, including the re-lighting scheme.
An enthusiastic charity worker, he raised money for various causes including the World Refugee Fund and Friends of Hospitals.
Councillor Mary McIntyre said "he had proved an able Councillor and one who in charitable work was not content to sit back and offer verbal advice"".
A man of many interests, including fishing.
