Was employed initially in the furniture industry before moving on to work in transport with St Helens Corporation, followed by 13 years in the mental health service in Liverpool and Bolton.
Moved to Horwich in 1972. Worked in public transport and became senior instructor at Manchester Training.
After a period working for Greater Manchester Transport and Blue Bus he set up his own bus company running 546 service between Royal Bolton Hospital and Hall i' th' Wood.
From 2010 Proprietor of Ye Olde Toffee Shoppe in Horwich with wife Delia who was also his Mayoress.
