Chargehand Rivetter at Horwich Loco Works.
Served his apprenticeship with Rushton Bros of Bolton and returned there after 5 years in the Army during the First World War.
He served in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and was wounded at Paschendale Ridge. He later served with the Royal Marine Engineers and Royal Defence Corps in Ireland before finally being discharged in March 1919.
He worked for various firms in Bury and then came to Horwich Loco Works in 1923.
Represented East Ward from 1951.
Chairman of the Parks Committee and of the General Purposes Committee.
Member of Bury Labour Party for 17 years before coming to Horwich.
Chairman of Horwich Labour Party from 1955.
Governor of Holy Infant RC School.
Roman Catholic - attended St Mary's RC Church, Horwich.
