Glazier.
He started work half-time aged 10 at Wallsuches Bleachworks. At 15 he began work at Horwich Loco Works where he was transferred to the Signal. Joiners and Pattern shop.
He served on the board of Horwich Co-operative Society for 24 years and was President for 2 years. He was also a member of the Society Education Committee for 5 years and was Chairman in 1912.
Represented South Ward from 1930.
Chairman of Health and Markets Committees and the Education Committee for 7 years.
He was a Manager of St Catherine's School for 2 years.
He was one of the founders of the Operatic Society and a member of the male voice glee party. He was also a chorister at the Parish Church for 12 years.
