Foreman Engineer in the erecting shed at Horwich Loco Works.
He was later also the Manager of The Ridgeway Arms Hotel, Blackrod for 6 years.
Represented South Ward from 1928-34.
Magistrate.
He was Chairman of various Committees, including Housing, Electricity, Estates and The Cemetery Committee.
During his year as Chairman the new chapel at Ridgmont Cemetery was completed.
He was a keen sportsman and played cricket for Horwich RMI. He played football for Blackrod before joining Darwen in the old Lancashire League. He was also interested in athletics and was in the Horwich RMI Harriers.
