Joiner, builder and undertaker. He erected a great deal of property in the town.
Represented East and Central Wards from 1914, serving for 15 years.
He was on the Board of Guardians from 1906 until its abolition in 1930 and was its Chairman twice.
Chairman of the Local Employment Committee from its foundation in November 1920 and was also Chairman of the Assessment Committee.
Magistrate 1918.
Vice President of Horwich Conservative Club.
At the time of his death he was the oldest Freemason in the Horwich Branch and a Past Master of the Royal Chapter.
He was buried in Duke Street Cemetery, Southport.
