Painter and Decorator with own business in Little Lever.
Represented Church Ward from 1964.
Chairman of the Finance Committee and a member of the Divisional Education Executive.
He met his wife when stationed near Worcester in the Second World War.
His eldest daughter Susan was a former Carnival Queen of the village.
Known as Jim, in an interview in 1971 he said "My big ambition has been that Little Lever should be a good looking place and an enviable town to live in." He went on to say that during his time as a Councillor "dozens of projects for the demolition of old property, re-building and developing have been undertaken and it is hoped that they will all be completed before Little Lever becomes part of the Greater Bolton Authority." He could envisage that "being a representative of the new larger authority would be a full time professional job."
