Coal Merchant for 60 years
He was one of the original members of the Council and represented West Ward for 30 years.
Chairman of the Finance Committee for 6 years.
During his Chairmanship the Council acquired the site known as The Unicorn Inn Corner, improving the area by demolition of property and widening of the road.
He was Secretary of Little Lever Conservative Club for 20 years.
Anglican - he had a long association with St Matthew's Church. He was a teacher and worker in the Sunday School for 40 years and a Sidesman for 21 years. He was a Day School manager and Warden as well as Principal Officer of the Burial Society.
In his obituary the Farnworth Journal said "he was a veteran native of the village who had done much towards its evolution. His gentle bearing and amicable disposition won him the regard of everyone."
