Staunch Trade Unionist.
First elected in 1960 and served as a Councillor for 20 years, with a break from 1965 to 1967.
Chairman of Health and Highways Committees.
Represented Kearsley on the Disablement Advisory Committee and the Divisional Health Committee as well as being a delegate to the Lancashire Clean Air Committee.
Honorary President of Bolton South East Labour Party.
Represented Kearsley Labour Party on the Farnworth Divisional Council and Kearsley Council on the South East Lancashire Superannuation Committee. He also represented the Farnworth and Worsley Trades Council on the Farnworth Employment Committee.
He was a keen helper with Kearsley's Meals-on-Wheels Service.
His hobby was cycling. He and his wife Betsy were life members of the Cyclists Touring Club and cycled all over Europe.
He lived in Kearsley all his life.
