Spinner. Started work as a half-timer at Bolton Textile Mill and worked for the same firm from then on.
Represented West Ward from 1950.
Chairman of Parks and Recreation Grounds Committee.
On his election he said that he and his wife would always have the honour and prestige of Kearsley at heart.
One of his last duties as Chairman was also his proudest. On Monday 5 May 1958 Kearsley Town Hall was the first stop on Bolton Wanderers team coach's victory route home with the FA Cup. 5000 people gathered there and blue and white bunting decked the flagpole. The Chairman climbed onto the roof of the coach from the inside, warmly congratulated the players and presented Nat Lofthouse with a bottle of Champagne on behalf of the people of Kearsley. Afterwards the Chairman said "I could not have thought of a more pleasant duty to perform at the end of my year of office. I have been a keen supporter of the club all my life and cheered the 1923 team home after they had won the first Wembley final".
Member of Kearsley Old People's Welfare Committee and Chairman and Secretary of Kearsley Over 60s Club. He organized trips for old people in the district.
Keen footballer. He played inside left in the same Church Army football team as Robert Neary, Mayor of Farnworth 1954. He also played for Church Road and was a Wanderers season ticket holder. He played cricket for St John's, Farnworth and Kearsley Parish Church and also for Farnworth and Kearsley.
He and his wife had two daughters and lived at 7 Roosevelt Road, Kearsley.
