Cotton spinner "employing in conjunction with others 200 hands" in 1851.
Went into partnership with Thomas Leeming in the 1840s as Gregson & Leeming Cotton Spinners.
He was the original Alderman for Derby Ward 1838-44 so never sat as a Councillor.
He used his casting vote as Mayor to return fellow Liberal John Slater as next Mayor (as opposed to the Conservative nomination, Stephen Blair) after a 24-24 split along party lines.
He was the only Mayor to decline to place a link on the Chain but the link opposite was added for the sake of completeness in the 1930s.
