Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have launched a public consultation on the recommendations from their 2022/23 Fire Cover Review and Special Appliances Review.
The proposals would see an increase in the number of fire engines in the Manchester area and two new ‘enhanced rescue stations’ in other areas of the city-region to respond to complex and technical incidents. In addition, they are proposing to introduce two further ‘day crewing’ fire stations in areas of low risk and low demand, and enhance our special appliances.
Based on extensive data and insight, they believe the package of measures proposed are the best way for them to build a stronger, more resilient fire and rescue service for Greater Manchester, while maintaining the highest levels of safety and lowest levels of risk as they protect our communities, work together and save lives.
The four areas they are seeking views on during the consultation are:
- Introducing two additional ‘day crewing’ fire stations at Offerton and Sale Community Fire Stations.
- Introducing two new Enhanced Rescue Stations at Ashton and Leigh Community Fire Stations.
- Increasing our frontline operational fleet from 50 to 52 fire engines, with the additional two engines placed at Manchester Central and Moss Side Community Fire Stations.
- Enhancing our special appliances, including our water search and rescue capability.
