Students
You may be able to reduce the amount you have to pay.
If you apply for a discount or exemption, you must continue to pay your current instalments until your bill is amended.
Full time students
If someone in your household is over 18 years old and a full time student, you may be able to claim a discount.
A full time student must be enrolled on a course with a prescribed educational establishment. This may be anywhere in the European Union provided it is mainly for the purpose of providing further or higher education.
To count as a full time student for council tax purposes, the course must:

last for at least one academic or calendar year

require you to attend for at least 24 weeks out of the year and
-
require you to study for at least 21 hours per week during term time
If you are studying for a qualification up to A level and you are under 20, the course must:

last for more than three months and
-
require you to study for more than 12 hours per week
Student nurses
If someone in your household is a student nurse, you may be able to claim a discount.
A student nurse must be:
- enrolled on a course with the College of Nursing and Midwifery or College of Health and
- taking a course which leads to an appropriate registration under section 10 of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979
