Scheduled ancient monuments

Scheduled monuments are designated by the secretary of state for culture, media and sport, with the advice of Historic England and are designated because of their national importance. Scheduled monuments include single archaeological sites and complex archaeological landscapes. Scheduled monuments are not graded (like listed buildings for example). They cover human activity from the prehistoric era, such as burial mounds to 20th century military and industrial remains.
