Rural walks in Bolton

Bolton's rural areas offer great opportunities for every avid explorer. With a variety of paths across the borough to discover, we’re sure you’ll be an expert in no time!

However, along the way you could run into a range of environments, so make sure you get your waterproofs! Better to be safe than sorry!

Easily available paths

The following paths are some of Bolton’s most famous routes. However, they are available to most people including those using motorised buggies, so make sure you’re polite during your adventure.

  • Horrocks Wood
  • Middlebrook Valley Trail
  • Moses Gate Country Park
  • Smithills Country Park

The Middlebrook Valley Trail

If you’re only looking for a short journey through the wilderness. The Middlebrook Valley Trail runs between Red Moss at Middlebrook and Bolton Town Centre. There is a mysterious footpath and cycleway that leads you down through Deane Church Clough, Ladybridge and Lostock Junction.

Bolton's Country Parks

Bolton's Country Parks offer the best mix of natural trails for you and your friends. They provide a group of enchanting paths on a variety of surfaces, so make sure you come prepared as we don’t want any disasters!

The Tonge Trail

If you think that you have got what it takes to become a pro, why not tackle our eight mile walk which closely follows the River Tonge and Bradshaw Brook. However, make sure you pack your waterproofs as it may get wet!
